MSc: We coordinate the MSc in Human Evolution and Cognition, soon to transit to the new Interdisciplinary Masters Degree in Society and Cognition! This is a 1 year MSc degree with a range of topics.
PhD candidate: Obtaining your own bursary is the most recognized way to join a PhD. For International students there is this competitive studentship (La Caixa PhD). For students with Spanish nationality, there are 2 well-known options: FPU (national) & FPI CAIB (Government of the Balearic Islands).
Postdoc: Grants such as Juan de la Cierva (JdC), and Marie Curie, or the super competitive but well-recognized Ramon y Cajal
Visiting professor: Our university offers two paid possibilities: 1. Joining for 1 week to give some seminars. 2. Joining between 3 weeks and 3 months. This latter option includes salary and proof of some previous collaboration is often required.

The Department of Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) is offering a 36-month research assistant position (expected to initiate PhD) under the supervision of Alejandro (Alex) Galvez-Pol.
This opportunity is part of a novel research project on Active sensing, EEG, Eye Tracker, and Interoception. The project is coordinated with Michael Gaebler (Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences). Candidates are also expected to start the PhD programme under the framework of this project.
Expected start of the position: Beginning of February ’25.
Primary tasks: (a) assisting in the design and implementation of studies recording EEG, ECG, and respiration. (b) participating in data acquisition (testing participants). (c) pre-processing electrophysiological data. (d) contributing to the dissemination of the research findings. The department provides a welcoming and dynamic environment for research. The successful candidate will have access to well-equipped laboratories (testing rooms, EEG facilities, Eye Tracker, wearable sensors, etc). They will also collaborate with a network of researchers in Germany. Moreover, additional funding is available for attending conferences and workshops.
Requirements: the ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a high level of written and spoken English, as well as programming skills (e.g., R, MATLAB). A video CV needs to be sent in English. Last, 2 recommendations letters should be sent with the documentation of the application.
Candidates with an interest in pursuing a PhD in the host teams (Active Cognition, Embodiment, and Environment Lab, and the Human Evolution and Cognition Research Group) will be prioritized.
